Senior Adult Ministry

RG and Liz Gall,
"Prime Timers" Coordinators
Gift of life, it seems to me the only
tragedy is to allow part of us to die--
whether it is our spirit, our creativity, or
our glorious uniqueness.
~Gilda Radner
"Age should not have its face lifted, it
should rather teach the world to admire
wrinkles as the etchings of experience
and the firm line of character."

News for PrimeTimers
The Primetimers gathered on the 19th of January... RG opened the gathering with a prayer. He asked that we
say a prayer for Helen who is in Ches Gen. and for all to those hospitalized, in nursing homes, at home in poor
health and those recuperating. Please remember Eddie, Blanche and Evelyn also.

This month we supported Our House Families. We had a table full of items; 18 towels, 7 wash cloths, 2 hand
towels, 10 cleaning products, 1 package of napkins, 18 package of paper towels, and more. We took the items
to Our House that afternoon. This is the first time we had been when there was not some family in crisis at the
front door. Hopefully things are better.

We also took up a collection for
a staff member. She lost both parents within weeks of each other. How sad...
She thanked us for the love offering, but said she is still struggling with her loss.

Rowe won the door prize. I don't know if she will share it with Mel... Liz and Marie provided the refreshments. Liz
sugar free cake and sugar free icing went over big. Can't tell any difference. Marie brought home baked goodies.
Who ate all of it? Liz's decoration theme was SNOWMEN. The tables looked nice. However, 30 more days of
snow… Our highlight was guest speaker Kathy Williams from the City's Parks and Recreation Department. All the
way from the other Part of Chesapeake... Western Branch!

So many things for the 55+ crowd...She explained programs available, how to sign up, brochures, the where-s
and when-s and most programs are free. Wellness Day, dancing, yoga, aerobics for $1.00, AARP driver safety
with could save you on car insurance, for those who do not want to drive at night: pick you up at your front door
and take you to a restaurant, rockin’ to the oldies, tai chi, easy dance classes, ceramics, a formal evening out,
painting for fun, bingo, Wii bowling, and much more. I have copies of these items and I'll try to get them out to
those who didn't pick up a copy. Kathy Williams asked that we keep Chaplain Rowley in our prayers.

Handout and topics discussed:
Will you be Medicare eligible soon? Then there will be Medicare presentations at Senior Services of
Southeastern Va. Medicare Part D and Advantage Programs. Disenrollment period. Medicare costs for 2012.
Premiums, late enrollment fee, costs for services, i.e. home health care, hospice, and more. Phone numbers to
call a patient in hospitals in our area. Our House Families history. Centerville's Team and Committee rooster.
Ancillary billing providers at Ches General. Jennings Center labs, their costs, and etc... that do not require a
physician's order. Free Medical supplies... i.e. hospital bed, walkers, briefs, etc. Additional copies of some items
are available on the Senior Adult Bulletin Board.

Attendance: Marie, Dolly, Shirley, Rebecca, Jim, Faye, Dot, Barb, Mel, Rowe, RG, Liz, Carolyn, Velma, Mary,
Margaret, and Kathy.

Jim and Rebecca are new to Centerville. Jim hails from Jersey. Rebecca hails from Deep Creek. They both are
choir members. Jim wants to demonstrate things chefs can do well. Sure, by all means.

Birthdays:

Nancy Gray 1 Jan, Velma 3 Jan, Marie 3 Jan, Rich 19 Jan and Beth 23 Jan.

NEXT MONTH:

We will meet the 16th of Feb....Dot and Barb will bring the desserts and Shirley will bring the drinks.

In Feb, we will be supporting a Church Family or families. We hope to have Roy Smith giving a speech on the
NABA's creating a Legacy Fund. We hope to have Earl or Paul Virts addressing items important to seniors.

Blessings,
Liz and RG
